Taking a step back

Wow, from that title you’d probably expect quite a sad or negative post, huh? Well, it’s actually the opposite!
I’ve been working on myself for quite a long time now and although I’ve made progress in several fields, sadly on the subject of my self-esteem I still have a very long way to go. This sadly also caused me to turn away from Lolita. I’ve always continued to love the fashion, but on others and not on me.

However, something happened. One could even speak of a miracle! I saw some advertisements of Angelic Pretty in Spoon magazine, announcing their new Fall/Winter collection and I fell head over heels in love with one of their new prints. That same day I had a therapy session that was somewhat life-changing and before I knew it, I’d sent an email to my shopping service. The dress hasn’t been released yet by the time this post goes online, but I’m hoping soon!

The day after, I was meeting with some friends (keeping safe social distance) and I decided to dress up a little. Heck, I decided to wear a Lolita skirt and petticoat! The outfit I ended up with would probably be considered very casual Lolita, maybe not even that. But all I know is that it made me feel happy, like Lolita should. This was my outfit, I hope you like it!
So yes, I’ve worn a semi, sort of, casual Lolita outfit and have fallen in love with a dress again. It seems I’m taking a tiny step back into Lolita. Hopefully many more steps will follow.

I Cut My Hair!

Hey everyone!
Thank you for your kind comments on my previous posts. I wanted to reply to them but couldn't really... But thank you very much, it really touched me!
Before I finally continue with planned posts (Londen! Tokyo!), I wanted to share some news with you. Last Friday, january 26, I had my hair cut short! My long hair has been part of my identity for as long as I can remember and now suddenly it's barely reaching past my shoulders! I keep shaking my head and my hair moves around, it's so weird!
Why this change, you might wonder? A while ago a friend asked for tips on how to maintain long hair and my most important tip was 'patience', because it can become very annoying overtime. That's when I realised my hair had become a burden and I didn't really want it anymore.
In some cultures the cutting of your hair stands for the end of an important part of your life, a break with the past: to divide time between 'the old me' and 'the new me'. Up until now I have followed the path in life I set out for myself long ago and now that I have graduated I have reached a point where I have to create a new path. I felt like this needed a gesture, something symbolic. So here we are! ♥
Some people might say: 'Such a shame! What a waste!' but it's really not. I have donated my hair to charity, so that someone else will be happy with my hair, hopefully. I'm really happy with my new haircut! It feels a little strange, but I look forward to trying out new hairstyles! So, what do you think?

Thank you for reading! ~☆~

In Memoriam: Ollie

I apologize for my lack of updates. 2018 didn’t start off very positively. On January 3rd, my dog Ollie passed away. Last time one of my dogs died, which was four years ago, I wrote a blogpost here that still really touches me to this day, so I will try and recreate it for Ollie by telling you some things about him.

We adopted Ollie (official name Oliver) in 2013 through the stray dogs foundation we are a foster family for. When my mom was in Spain to help out, she fell in love with a dog named Oldi. He lived in a pen together with some other dogs and had the saddest look in his eyes. When my mom arrived back home, she just couldn’t stop talking about him and looking at pictures she took of him. Eventually, my father decided to adopt Oldi as a surprise for my mom’s birthday. She was so happy! ♥
Although he was already 10 years old, Ollie turned out to be still full of life and energy! He loved going on walks and was always so happy to be outside. We never got him to walk off leash sadly, since his mind would switch to ‘adventure mode’ and he surely would have run off. Nevertheless, he loved walks in the park and going to the beach. ♥
He was really dumb. You might think that’s not a very nice thing to say, but I mean that in the most loving way. Ollie was obviously just not very smart and this showed in various small, everyday situations. It was super cute though. ♥
He stared, very intensely. Ollie had this strange habit of staring deeply into your eyes when you pet him. Normally, when dogs do this it means they’re scared and might lash out, but Ollie never hurt a fly. I sincerely believe he just didn’t receive the dog memo on the fact that’s usually a no go. ♥
When you would stop petting him, he would break his trance and wag his tail, asking for more pets by licking your hand or pressing his head against it. It was super cute. ♥
He always howled happily when you arrived home. Sometimes this was a bit bothersome, especially when you got home quite late at night, but he was always so happy to see you. he never really barked, he just howled. ♥
He was a very vocal dog anyway. Ollie used to whimper a lot, but from happiness or excitement. It was annoying at times, but quite sweet as well and now I find myself greatly missing it. ♥
He had the tiniest white tip at the end of his tail. It was so adorable. ♥
He was our only dog that ever played with foster dogs, despite being our eldest one! ♥
He loved belly rubs. He always tried to get them while you were petting him and sometimes his huge eyes convinced me to give him one, but most of the time it just made me laugh, because he looked so funny. ♥

Ollie became very sick within an incredibly short amount of time. He was always so healthy and strong and suddenly everything went downhill within a day. The veterinarian came to our house to see if anything could be done, but there was nothing left. Ollie died while my mom and I held him.

Losing a pet is always hard, but the fact his death was so sudden makes it even more painful. We thought Ollie would outlive all our other dogs, he was so healthy! I keep seeing him in the corner of my eye, I keep thinking I hear him walking to his bed at night, I keep expecting to hear is happy howling when I come home. I hope to see him again someday.

23 Lolita Things

Today is a very special day for me, because it’s my birthday! I am turning 24 today, wow! I never really liked the number 23, so leaving that an moving on to 24 feels kind of nice. ^^ Although I miss my 21 and 22… Haha!
Anyway, I’m rambling. So today it’s my birthday! For my last two birthdays I wrote that I didn’t have any exciting plans, but this time I can say I do! Because at the moment this blog entry gets posted, I will be in Paris! ♥ I am staying at a friend’s house for the weekend and I hope it will be tons of fun! Expect blog posts and videos about it very soon… :3
For my 23rd and 22nd birthdays I made special posts to look back at the fun Lolita-related things I did those years. Since looking back on fun things is always quite nice, I wanted to do a post like that again this year. I haven’t done that many different Lolita-related things this year unfortunately, but I did come up with 23 things! So without further ado:

23 Lolita Things That Happened
When I Was 23

As previous years I made some special collages with pictures. Just click the links to go the blogposts where I talk about these events. ^^ The pictures are not in order of time because of lay out appearance, but I am sure you will be able to match the right picture to the right event~!

1. Just after my actual birthday, I attended the Summer Tales Boutique Very Merry Christmas Tea Party. It was a wonderful party, filled with amazing food and amazing people! I was so happy to see many of my friends again. Everyone looked so amazing! I had a fantastic day. But the cherry on top was the fact that I won the outfit contest! I really liked my outfit that day, but still cannot believe this actually happened!
2. At the end of 2015, I celebrated my birthday with a wonderful Bunny-themed Lolita birthday party together with my friend Iris. It was the third time I threw a Lolita party, but the first time I celebrated it together with a friend! It was a wonderful day and everyone looked so cute in their bunny-inspired outfits! I also really liked my own outfit that day. ^^ It was an amazing day filled with beautiful and super sweet girls and wonderful presents and memories. I had a lot of fun!
3. This year I made several haul and review videos on my YouTube channel, like my Japan Haul videos and my Luminous Sanctuary unboxing video. Talking into the camera for so long was quite scary at first, but I am getting better at it and it’s just so much fun! I am really happy there are people who appreciate my long talk videos, thank you!
4. New dresses are also Lolita highlights! At the beginning of the year I managed to get my hands on the Luminous Sanctuary special set in pink. It took a lot of effort since they were a Tokyo Angelic Pretty exclusive, but later on they were also sold in regular stores haha! But at last I got mine very early! x) I still haven’t worn it (boo me), but I hope to do so soon.
5. This year I visited Summer Tales Boutique several times and always bought at least one item from them. I never wrote about these visits, since they were quite casual. But I did post on my Instagram. I am really happy Katie is putting so much effort into her brand and her shop and I want to support her where I can! Also, I pretty much want a whole collection of Pom plushies now…
6. I never wrote about this anywhere, but one of my dreams came true: singing in a performance while wearing Lolita. In March we had our big project, called ‘Les Hotspots de Paris’. The project consisted of several parts, one of them being two pieces from Offenbach’s ‘La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein’. I suggested wearing one of my “doll dresses” for this part (there wasn’t really another way to describe it to my teacher) and it was approved! It was truly a dream come true. People literally gasped when I walked onto the stage in my outfit! XD
7. On Saturday May 7th the Under the Sea main event took place. Months and months of hard work finally came together in this huge event. What an amazing day it was… Under the Sea will always have a special place in my heart. All the stressful things that had happened before got washed away (pun intended) by the actual event. So many happy faces, so many amazing people, wonderful guests, an amazing location. I think I smiled all day! I was truly and fully happy that day.
8. On Sunday May 8th the Under the Sea Tea Party took place. This Tea Party was a lot more laid back for the organisers than the main event and it was a lot of fun! Everyone looked fantastic and I am so happy to have been a part of it.

9. As you can see, Under the Sea brought me a lot of precious memories! Fistly, meeting Yu Kimura was a dream come true! What a sweet person. Her cuteness knows no limits! I am so grateful I got to meet her.
10. Secondly, meeting Akira was a second dream come true! She is such an amazing person. She is kind, funny and at the same time has this brooding energy that makes everyone around her sort of fall for her charms. She is just indescribable…
11. I was very happy I got the chance to meet Mari Nakamura and Mariko Suzuki. Both lovely people. So graceful, so thankful. Another memory I am grateful for.
12. I never dared to dream it, but it happened! Kabedon with Akira was the perfect end to a perfect weekend! I am still blushing thinking back to it, gasping for air. Aaah, no words!
13. One final Under the Sea memory, I promise! Being a part of Street Fashion Europe meant so much to me. Being a part of this group where people I barely knew cared for me was a unique experience. I learned a lot, not just about organising, but also about myself. I made a lot of new friends and finally was asked to join the group as an official member. I cried that day, I was so happy! Thank you Street Fashion Europe, for changing me for
the better.
14. Oh right, non-Under the Sea things happened as well! In June I participated in a
J-Fashion show at a local convention. I represented the Sweet Lolita style. The show was a lot of fun and I bought some nice items at the dealer room. Overall a pretty good day!
15. In July a brand new (yes pun intend again) Angelic Pretty shop opened in Paris! As a Sweet Lolita and massive Angelic Pretty lover, I was and still am over the moon of course! An actual, physical store that receives the same collections as the shops in Japan, a European Lolita’s dream come true!

16. I bought a beautiful new dress at the new Angelic Pretty shop; the Shadow Dream Carnival special set. I am incredibly happy Angelic Pretty opened a new shop and I hope I will be able to support them where I can!
17. I was really happy I got to participate in this year’s Angelic Pretty Tea Party again! The Tea Party had its good and bad sides, but all in all I had fun! I was incredibly proud of my outfit with my beloved Crystal Dream Carnival Carnival, which made me super happy!
18. An incredible highlight of the Angelic Pretty Tea Party for me was winning second best dressed in the outfit contest! I felt and still feel so incredibly honoured and happy! To be elected second best dressed while for so long I felt unattractive and downright ugly was a major boost for me! And my picture appeared in Spoon magazine!
19. Last year I had pretty much just started my YouTube channel, now I have over 30 videos and over 1300 followers! I love making videos and some of the comments I get are so sweet and positive! They really motivate me to keep going.
20. I was sent some goods to review by the lovely Lolita indie brand Fluffy Tori. A tremendous honour and I absolutely love their stuff! I will be meeting the owner in a couple of months and I am very excited!
21. Street Fashion Europe’s next event, Omnia Vanitas, takes place in Barcelona on March 18 and 19. I am incredibly excited! There is much left to be announced and I am sure it will be another great event. This year I will be an organiser again of course, so I am living the true organiser experience: I will be travelling with my friend and co-organiser Josine and we’ll be staying in an apartment. I cannot wait! Although I am also quite nervous…
22. One of the announced guests for Omnia Vanitas is the amazing Kira Imai. I am incredibly excited to meet her and buy things from her! Another guest is Victorian Maiden, which is also so amazing! Keep an eye on the OV Facebook page, because more will be announced overtime.
23. Today, when this blog entry gets posted, I will be picking up the birthday present my parents offered me: the mint Milky Swan jumperskirt by Angelic Pretty! I have loved this dress for such a long time. Although I initially loved it more in dark blue, the mint colour really grew on me and I can’t believe it will be mine. So happy. ;___;

So there you have it: all the Lolita things that have made me happy when I was 23 years old. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to come up with 23 events, but in the end I managed! Let’s hope there will be more than 24 when I look back around this time next year… ♥

22 Lolita Things

Today it’s Thursday the 10th of December, which means it is my birthday today! I am turning 23 today, oh my God.
I know it sounds stupid and childish, but I really don’t like the number 23. I am really going to miss that double two, haha!
Anyway, let’s get to the point. Or just any point rather. x) Today it’s my birthday! I’m afraid it’s not going to be an exciting one. When I am writing this, I haven’t planned anything fun and I am not really expecting any presents either, because I simply don’t know anything I want. I might update this post on the day itself if anything happens, haha! Thankfully, I am celebrating my birthday with a Lolita party on the 20th of December and I will not do it just by myself! Stay tuned…
Last year I wrote that I wasn’t doing very well and I’m afraid I am not doing any better these days, I am worse in fact. There’s not much to say about it, but in case you’re worried about me: please don’t. I’ll survive. Eventually.
In order to get through the days I try to find a ray of sunshine in little things. Last year I made a blogpost with a summary of ‘the 21 Lolita things that happened while I was 21’. I decided that, in order to cheer myself up a bit (since looking back on fun things is quite nice), I wanted to do a post like that again this year. I hope I can come up with 22 things though, pfew! So without further ado:

22 Lolita Things That Happened
When I Was 22

I made some special collages with pictures like last time, only now we have one picture extra! Just click the links to go the blogposts where I talk about these events. ^^ The pictures are not in order of time because of lay out appearance, but I am sure you will be able to match the right picture to the right event~!

1. At the end of 2014, I celebrated my birthday with a wonderful Lolita birthday party. It was the second time I threw a Lolita party myself and it was such a wonderful day! For the party, I had chosen a fairy tale theme and I dressed up as my take on ‘the Snow Queen’. I really loved my outfit that day! The other girls looked amazing as well and I was so happy I got to celebrate my birthday with friends. It was an amazing day filled with beautiful and super sweet girls. I had so much fun!
2. At the end of December, right before Christmas, I attended Summer Tales Boutique's special shop day. I got to wear my lovely Melody Toys dress by Angelic Pretty for the first time and my mom bought me a beautiful head dress as a present for Christmas.
3. I officially started my own YouTube channel! During this year I discovered I really enjoy making videos about my trips and Lolita adventures. I hope you will check out my channel if you haven’t yet! ^^
4. Together with my friend Michelle I visited the Dutch Lolita store MFashion. Unfortunately, this store was about to close down and since I hadn’t visited it yet, I felt like it was my Lolita duty to do so! It was a lovely day and I am happy I got to spend it with such a dear friend as well. This small event was also one of the first videos I uploaded onto my new YouTube channel.
5. February came with an absolutely spectacular event: La Vie en Rose in Paris, organised by Street Fashion Europe. I had so much fun at this event! It featured amazing brands like Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, Triple Fortune, Syrup and Grimoire and I was incredibly happy and honoured to meet all the designers. I got to talk with so many amazing friends, old and new and I absolutely adored the fashion shows. It was an incredible day! To express my gratitude, I made a special video of me singing a song with videos of the event. Aaah, I still can’t listen to it, it’s so hard to hear my own voice! x) But I am overly grateful people liked it.
6. The day after the La Vie en Rose event was the Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Tea Party! I really loved my outfit on that day. I had hand made several items for it and commissioned a beautiful head dress and veil to copy Misako’s bridal look from a fashion show. The Tea Party was amazing: lovely venue, amazing people and wonderful outfits! It was incredible.
7. I also won a big prize in the raffle of the Tea Party! I still can’t believe I won a full Baby, the Stars Shine Bright set: jumperskirt, blouse, tights and hair clip! I still haven’t worn any of them (boo me), but I hope to do so soon!

8. My friend Michelle celebrated her birthday with a Lolita party! She called it ‘The Curiousi-Tea Party’ and the theme was ‘all things mysterious’. So I dressed up as a bunny! x) A very curious bunny though, haha! However, Michelle looked absolutely gorgeous and the party was amazing. She put a lot of work into the food and decoration and we played Just Dance! It was so great!
9. At the end of April I did a Gothic Lolita photoshoot with Josine and Marcella. I was super nervous, but the two girls modelling were amazing and just looked smashing! In the end, we had quite a nice series of pictures and I am still very proud of what we accomplished.
10. I spent an absolutely lovely Lolita sleepover with my friend Iris! She let me wear her dresses and we made videos together. It was such a lovely weekend. Reminds me I should do this more often :3
11. This year one of my dreams came true (actually, a lot came true, but I’ll get to that): together with Iris I attended the Japan Tag in Düsseldorf. Iris lent me her gorgeous Angelic Pretty hat and gloves which resulted into a great outfit if I may say so. I felt really pretty and despite the bad weather I had a great day. I met many lovely people and I also got to meet two of my favourite cosplayers after the stress of thinking they had left already! I am so glad that happened. Great day! :3
12. Right at the beginning of July I went to Paris with Iris. And another dream came true: we visited the Japan Expo. I had always wanted to go there but unfortunately it never happened. It was super hot though, especially the train ride back to Paris was awful. However, I had a great time. I discovered the amazing group Takarabune, shopped a lot and met my Lolita Idol RinRin Doll, who just happened to walk around there! I was so happy I got to meet her again. ;_;
13. The day after the Japan Expo was the Angelic Pretty Tea Party. In the morning, we visited Princess Crêpe to meet RinRin again. Being able to talk with RinRin so much during this weekend was amazing. She really is my idol and she is so incredibly kind! I wish for every Lolita to meet her one day.
14. Even though it was really hot and I felt like fainting the entire the day, the Angelic Pretty Tea Party was still a highlight to me. I wore an outfit that I was really proud of and I got to talk to many lovely people. I was happy to be able to talk some more with Maki, Asuka and RinRin, who all mean a lot to me. It was also such an honour to witness an exclusive Angelic Pretty Fashion Show right at the Tea Party, featuring a print that no one in the world had ever seen yet! It was so cool.
15. During my last day in Paris I joined the Harajuku Fashion Walk. It was much cooler that day so I felt a lot better and it was lovely to talk a bit more with Maki, Asuka and friends.

16. The weekend of July 25th and 26th was very special, worldwide even! Because during that weekend, all around the world International Harajuku Fashion Walks were being organised. I was very happy and honoured to take over the organisation for the Dutch Fashion Walk together with two friends. I had a lovely day: everyone who attended looked amazing and everyone was so nice too! Thank you so much again for coming!
17. Another dream came true: my Angelic Pretty Tea Party outfit was featured in the
Gothic & Lolita Bible
. I am so incredibly honoured and humbled my outfit was chosen and placed among such lovely ladies. I still can’t believe it!
18. In October I went to Japan, with my mom. I am still working on the blog posts and videos, please wait a little. ^^ While in Osaka, I found one of my Ultimate Dream Dresses: Crystal Dream Carnival. I still can’t really believe it and every time I look at my closet and post this dress, I can’t help but smile…
19. I haven’t written a blog post about this yet, but I wore Lolita in Harajuku again. Although it was hot and I felt uncomfortable at times, it still felt special to walk around in my favourite style at the place it originated. I wore Wonder Cookie, one of my most colourful dresses and that I had actually bought in Harajuku during my last trip. It was almost like taking this dress home, haha!
20. Not long after the La Vie en Rose event, I was asked by my friend Josine to join her Dutch team for Street Fashion Europe, since the next event would take place in the Netherlands. Under the Sea, as it’s called, is going to be absolutely fantastic, I can tell! We are all working so hard for it to become amazing and I really hope everyone who will attend will love it!
21. Of course, special guests will join Under the Sea and next to our main guest Juliette et Justine we are also welcoming Akira! I cannot tell you how excited I am to meet her and for everyone to meet her too! I still can’t believe she is coming! *fangirling*
22. Please keep an eye on the Under the Sea event page, because more will be announced soon. It’s very exciting, I can tell you… ;) At least, I think it’s exciting. So I hope you think so too. ^^

So there you have it: all the Lolita things that have made me happy when I was 22 years old. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to come up with 22 events, but in the end it was easier than I thought! Let’s hope there will be more than 23 when I look back around this time next year…

21 Lolita Things

Today is a very special day for me, because it’s my birthday! I am turning 22 today, oh my! I always really loved the number 21, so leaving that behind and having to tell people I am 22 from now on sounded less… cool? But well, there’s two twos in 22, so that’s pretty neat actually. ^^
Anyway, I’m rambling. So today it’s my birthday! Initially I hadn’t planned anything special since it’s a normal school day, but I went to see the third Hobbit movie with a friend! It’s the first day the movie is out in my country, so it feels extra special! Plus, I will celebrate my birthday this weekend. Expect a blog post about it very soon… :3
Unfortunately, I haven’t been doing very well lately. I won’t talk about it here and now, I’m sorry. But to cheer myself up a bit, I decided to make a list of all the fun, Lolita-related things that have happened to me in the year I was 21 years old. Usually I post a year overview on December 31st, but now I will have to think up something else. ^^ So without further ado:

21 Lolita Things That Happened
When I Was 21

I made some special collages with pictures. Just click the links to go the blogposts where I talk about these events. ^^ The pictures are not in order of time because of lay out appearance, but I am sure you will be able to match the right picture to the right event. ;)

1. At the end of 2013, I celebrated my birthday with an amazing Lolita birthday party. It was the first time I threw a Lolita party myself and it was so much fun! For the party, I had chosen a Paris-theme to go with my Promenade de Paris dress and matching colours for decorations. It was an amazing day filled with beautiful and super sweet girls. It was an amazing day!
2. I finally made my first wardrobe post! Every year in January, the theme of the Lolita Livejournal community in January is ‘wardrobe’. Every Lolita who wants to posts pictures of her entire Lolita wardrobe and I finally joined in as well! It was a lot of fun to take pictures of all my Lolita items and see everything I own neatly spread out. Unfortunately, I never posted a link to the post on my blog, but I did make a concept post. Maybe I will posts it someday.
3. In February, I had a meeting with some of the German Lolitas in Düsseldorf. I was so happy to see my German friends again and also make new ones! We had a great time shopping and going out for lunch. It was amazing!
4. Together with my friend Michelle I had a lovely Lolita weekend, in which we wore Lolitas on both days. My favourite outfits were our red coordinates, in which I wore pink and red and Michelle borrowed my Milky Berry. Not only was it a lot of fun to coordinate together, it also made me realise how much I like to dress other people up as well! ^^
5. At the end of March, I visited the Summer Tales Boutique opening day. Fly Away Fashion had officially changed its name and I was very happy to be a part of the special day when it was celebrated. I was very happy to see some of my favourite Belgians again and also to get to know some new people. Plus, I really liked my outfit that day. :3
6. In April I went to Japan, together with my mom. I had an amazing time with her shopping in Harajuku while wearing Lolita. It was an amazing day!
7. While in Japan, we met up with Emilie and spent an amazing day walking around in Lolita, taking pictures in Shibuya, shopping in Harajuku and all kinds of Lolita things we had on our mutual bucket list. It was absolutely magical!

8. July really was my ‘Parisian month’. So many amazing things happened! I was incredibly happy to be able to visit the Angelic Pretty pop up store with my mom. Angelic Pretty Paris unfortunately doesn’t exist anymore, so being able to shop in a temporary store was amazing! I bought the prettiest things there!
9. I was incredibly happy to be able to walk in the Parisian Harajuku Fashion Walk, together with so many friends and Japanese Lolita idols of mine. I felt even more colourful and pretty walking in the in the gorgeous sun filled streets of Paris.
10. I didn’t think it would be possible for a long time, but eventually I was able to go to the Angelic Pretty Tea Party this year as well! I had a lovely time with my friends, meeting new people, talking with Maki and Asuka who I absolutely adore and even winning something in the raffle! One of my favourite Lolita days of the year.
11. A few days later, I spent a few days with Mila and Marie. On Sunday, we attended the Following Alice event, where I got to meet Misako Aoki again. She looked stunning and was as lovely as I remembered.
12. At the Following Alice event, I got to witness the election of the French Kawaii Ambassadors. Even though the three girls do not represent my country, it was still very special for me.
13. On my last day in Paris, I attended French Café’s first Garden Party. The location was very beautiful and I had a wonderful day filled with pictures, laughter and friends.
14. This year I also participated in two contests! One was a contest organised by Kawaii.i, the second by the Japanese Lolita brand Metamorphose. I didn’t win either of the two, but participating was quite fun. ^^

15. In August, I went to Paris again with my mom for two days for her birthday. I never wrote a blog post about it, but I can tell you we had a lot of fun! We did a lot of sightseeing, but we also shopped at Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Paris and Axes Femme. Of course Baby was lovely as ever, but we had never been to Axes Femme before. What an a-ma-zing shop! Both my mom and I bought a beautiful dress there.
16. I was happy to be able to attend this year’s Kawaii Event again, which was very fun. There was also a camera crew filming for a Dutch tv show and I am super honoured they kept some of my talking in the final show as well!
17. At the end of August, I participated in my friend Cat’s Lolita fashion show. Not only was walking in the show a lot of fun, I also bought some really wonderful items in the dealer room of the convention which still makes me very happy thinking about it.
18. I was very excited to be able to attend Katie’s Summer Tales Boutique 5th anniversary Tea Party. She asked me as the photographer for the day and I felt so happy and important that day! Everyone looked beautiful and being able to capture it on camera still makes
me glow.
19. At the Summer Tales Boutique party I also got to meet Asha Leo from Refinery29.com. She and her crew filmed the Dutch Lolitas for their ‘Style Out There’ series. Asha Is an amazingly kind and funny person and I am so happy to have met her! Also, the episode about Lolitas was amazing, one of the best videos on Lolita I have seen up until now!
20. For a special project that I shall not yet reveal, I did a very special photoshoot for my friend Cat. Keep an eye on my blog, you will found out soon enough… ^^
21. Finally, I have picked up my dream of doing interviews with Lolitas from all over the world! I have only just begun and it’s so much fun! I hope there will be many more to come!

So there you have it: all the Lolita things that have made me happy when I was 21 years old. Let’s hope there will be more than 22 when I look back around this time next year… ♥

In Memoriam: Saartje

I apologize for my lack of updates lately. I am a fulltime student now and I also work almost every weekend, so blogging had to be put lower on my priorities list. Also, sometimes life just gets in the way. It’s a bit of a strange expression, but it also describes what I went through these past weeks quite well. I’ve had a lot of trouble putting my different emotions in order and I am finally ready to talk about it.

Two weeks ago, on Friday September 6th, my dog Saartje passed away. I thought long and hard about what to write, but the loss of someone, whether it’s a pet or a family member, can’t really be put in words. So I decided to just tell you some things about her.

We adopted Saartje (which means ‘Little Sarah’) about three years ago from the stray dogs foundation we are a foster family for. My mom fell in love with the small, black old grandma dog called Nonna (which means ‘grandma’) and not long after we took her in, calling her Saartje. We already had three other dogs: Twinkle, a maltese, Catootje, a pug, and Canela, a breedless stray dog. Saartje was not like our other dogs. She preferred to stay in her bed instead of lying on the couch and she didn’t like cuddling at all. But we loved her from the very first moment! She had so many funny ways of her own.
She acted like a real queen: she’d come up at you, giving you the ‘I want to be petted so pet me’-look, you’d pet her and after a while she’d just walk away again, as if she said: ‘That’s enough.’ Such a sassy little dog. ♥
She barked like a seal, a strange, high bark, but so cute. ♥
She had a tickle spot that was quite easy to find. If you scratched the right place near her tummy, she’d start wiggling her paw. ♥
She’d often lie at your feet, just to be close to you. This sometimes caused us to almost trip over her. ♥
When we would pick her up to hug, her eyes would go wild and she just stared into a void until you put her down again. She did not like cuddling like this at all. ♥
When the other dogs were playing (which doesn’t happen a lot), she’d run up to them and growl so they would stop. She didn’t like too much fuss around her either. This sounds strange, but it was so funny! The other dogs respected her very much, even our newest dog Oliver. ♥
When she was hungry, she would bite my mom’s leg (not in a mean way), to tell her it was dinnertime. Dinnertime was the moment she became then years younger: she’d jump around and bark and dance until she got her food. ♥
Sometimes she’d just randomly start licking my leg, for no reason. When I looked at her, she’d just give me a ‘What?’-look. ♥
When she was still able to go on walks, there was only one dog she really liked to bump into. It was a male dog called Bart. She would really show off in front of him to impress him. ♥
At first she wasn’t keen on visitors, but through the years she got friendlier to strange people. I am glad most of my friends got to meet her, strange as that may sound. ♥

When she was getting sick, my mom and I slept downstairs on mattresses for a week to stay close to her. Some nights she decided to climb on one of the mattresses and sleep against me or my mom. I had never bonded with her so much before.
After some extra medication, Saartje seemed to feel better and she lived on for a couple more weeks. On Thursday September 5th we decided it was over and the veterinarian came to our house the next day. Saartje died in my arms.

It’s been a long time since I’ve lost a pet and I couldn’t remember it hurts this much. I know for sure Saartje spent some wonderful last years with us and it comforts me, but it doesn’t take away the pain. Writing this makes me cry again and it will take a while before I can say her name with a smile of melancholy instead of tearing up in sadness. I keep seeing her from the corner of my eye, I keep hearing her when I am daydreaming, I keep thinking she will walk up to me when I come home. I miss her so much, but she will never come back. I am sure that one day I will see her again, when the time is right, but it is not now.

I just miss my baby so much…

Music is my Heart

I want to tell you something that has nothing to do with Lolita, but everything with my life. I am so happy and excited and honoured about it that I just want to share it with all of you. I always have trouble to talk or write about things I did that make me proud, but I’ll do my best. So this post is very personal and very long.

As long as I can remember, singing has been my passion. Do you know the song ‘Thank you for the music’ from ABBA? The sentences ‘Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk. She says I began to sing long before I could talk’ really apply to me, as my mother always says. I sing all the time and everywhere. I never really had a particular style I preferred, I basically liked to sing anything.
For a long time I have wanted to become a singer when I grew up. Of course I also wanted to be a fairy and a dolphin trainer, but I think singing has always been there. My mother’s side of the family is really musical.  One of my grandfather’s brothers is even a famous concert pianist!

For years I have wanted to go to the conservatory. Since I have experienced not everyone knows what that is, I’ll explain shortly: according to Wikipedia, conservatory, or music school, refers to an educational institution specialized in the study, training and research of music. Well, that’s basically what it is, but I’ll clarify it a bit more. Here, a conservatory comes after high school, so I guess it’s sort off like college. Here in my country we have multiple conservatories, about nine. There are the four big ones, in the cities Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht, and the lesser big ones. To get accepted into a conservatory, you have to audition for a commission of your instrument of choice and you also have to do a music theory test.

Ok, so that’s it for the theoretical part. Back to my story.
For years I had wanted singing lessons, but many people told us it’s better to start taking singing lessons when you’re at least 16. The voice is a delicate instrument and it keeps on growing up until past your twenties, so you have to be careful with it! In the meantime, we visited an open house of the pop music department of the conservatory of Amsterdam. That day was a big disappointment: it totally wasn’t what I had expected. The dream of going there faded a little to the background. Nevertheless, I wanted singing lessons, so when I finally turned 16, we went looking for a singing teacher! We had looked before a little, but without succes. But in my city we have a great music- and art school, so when they were having open house, my mom and I decided to go take a look.
Wow, was I disappointed again. We went to the teacher who was giving pop music singing lessons and it was so not what we had expected! He was teaching a woman who was singing a song completely unfit for her voice and abilities and he was just cheering and saying how great she did. I was really sad, because he seemed the only pop music singing teacher. My mom and I walked around a little dazed, not really knowing what to do, when we suddenly walked past a classrom that said ‘classical singing’. Except for a woman, the teacher, no one was inside, and my mom said to go inside for a moment. Now I know many singers have a classical base, but I felt a bit hesitant at first. Classical singing? Wasn’t that like… opera?

Going into that classroom changed my whole life. If you believe in destiny, this could prove you’re right. Hadn’t we gone inside, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

We went inside, where we started talking to the teacher and she asked if I wanted to do some singing exercises. I was so shy, but I did it anyway. After that, one of the teacher’s students came in and sang something for us and I… I was captivated. I realised this was what I had been looking for all this time. After the student had left, the teacher (her name is Els) told me she would love to teach me and I felt really honoured.
So when we returned home, we immediately registered for classical singing lessons.

My lessons began after summervacation and I quickly started taking piano lessons too, after recommendation from Els (which was really cool, because now we have a piano downstairs ‘cause of that). After a couple of months, I had my first performance. I remember the songs I sang: three Bergerettes, French songs, called ‘Par un matin’, ‘Que ne suis-je la fougère’ and ‘Menuet d’Exaudet’. I was really nervous: my first classical songs performing while a pianist accompanied me. This was all so new for me! But I sang very well and my grandfather was sooo moved and happy about my improvements! My grandma love dit too, especially the way I was dressed and the way I thanked the pianist after.
During that year, Els told me I had a really special talent. Maybe I would be good enough for the conservatory! Suddenly, the dream of going there was awakened again. Els wanted me to audition for the Talentclass, where a teacher of the conservatories of Amsterdam and The Hague would listen to me too. I got accepted into the Talentclass and the teacher was impressed by my talent. The Talentclass prepares you for conservatory auditions, so I got the opportunities to perform more and also have theorie lessons.
Once I graduated from high school, my life changed a lot. Because of big budget cuts by my country’s government, the art schools (and other culture-related things like theatres) got into trouble, resulting into various new rules for new students. One of them being that you cannot follow a different study somewhere else while auditioning. I can’t really explain why: maybe because they’re afraid you won’t finish your music study or something. Anyway, this resulted into the fact that after my graduation I couldn’t start a study. So I decided to focus on singing, piano and music theory (later also some acting). I also found a job, so I had a busy life. Initially, I wanted to learn some Italian too for pronunciation, but I quickly put that aside.

In the meantime, I went to Tokyo, which was a very wonderful experience. ^^
After that, I started to register for auditions on the four big conservatories. Oh dear, thinking back… I won’t bother you with the stories of how difficult it was to get through all the procedures. XD Let’s say, it was complicated and repetitive at times and a lot of work.
I visited some open houses and also sang for some teachers, so they would get to know me. Most of the time I felt like I made a good impression. ^^
Now this may sound like those auditions we’re going to be a piece of cake, but I can tell you: the opposite is true. The conservatories in my country are worldwide known for their qualities and people from all over the world try to get in, expecially at Amsterdam and The Hague (they are the biggest and most prestigious ones). The big problem with foreign students is that they are actually allowed to have finished a (musical) study already, unlike the natives here, which gives us a disadvantage. Secondly, the schools get money for their foreign students. So foreign students are wanted.
Another problem is that, because of the budget cuts, there are fewer spots for new students. So getting into a conservatory is really hard nowadays. Knowing this, I still wanted to try to get in.

On april 11th I had my first audition, at the conservatory of Amsterdam. I knew both Amsterdam and The Hague were the hardest to get in, so I braced myself. I was nervous, but after practising a little with the pianist and talking to some other people (including a really nice guy with coloured hair, who waited until I had had my audition) I felt better. I sang an Italian aria and a German song and the commission didn’t debate for long.
I got rejected.
I was devastated. I knew the chances were small, but rejection is terrible nonetheless. Looking back at it now, I know I didn’t sing so great. I was really nervous and now I see it as my final rehearsal for the other auditions.

On may 23rd I had my second audition, at the conservatory of Rotterdam. Rotterdam was important to me, because I really wanted to study there with one of the teachers I really liked. This audition day was different: in Amsterdam I only had to sing, here I had to do a music theory test in the morning. The singing was in the afternoon.
Although I was prepared, something terrible happened. The theory test was only ear training and I thought there would be a written test too. Somehow this caused me to panic so much (I am insecure when it comes to ear training) that I got a major black out – pun not intended. I screwed up big time! My mom tried to convinde that it was not so bad though, which was very sweet. ♥
After the test, my mom and I went to have lunch and we walked around the city for a while. When we got back and arrived in the hallway where the classroom for the audition was, all the singers we had talked to were still sitting there, waiting for their audition (it was supposed to start at 1 pm, it was 2:30 pm). I was the very last one, so I had to wait for quite a while.
While some got accepted, some rejected, I waited. I was nervous, but I think my mom was even more nervous than me! It helped a little, haha! Then it was finally my turn! First I had to choose a song I wanted to start with (‘Voi che sapete’ from Mozart from Le nozze di Figaro, my favourite aria) and then they chose one.
I don’t know what happened inside, but I can tell you: it was magic! As my mom said, I got wings. I sang so great and I normally don’t say something like that about myself! I also had to recite a poem, which went really great as well!
While I waited in the hallway, they debated about me. Waiting took forever, but I was finally allowed to go in again. There they told me they wanted me for my singing! But unfortunately, my music theory wasn’t good enough so they doubted. I immediately told them about my blackout, which made them think and they said they would talk about it with the management and they would inform me next week.
Even though my singing was good enough, I was so sad! I knew I had sung wonderfully and now my music theory, which has always been a bit of a hill to climb, ruined everything. I was so angry with myself for screwing up like that. So instead of celebrating in the train back, I could only cry.

We waited and waited, but the telephone didn’t ring. No emails either. It was like torture and I was so nervous during all those days…
Then, on may 31st I had my third audition, at the conservatory of Utrecht. Before I knew of Rotterdam, this was my favourite conservatory. It has a great atmosphere and it’s located in the middle of the city, which is so awesome!
Here too I had to do a theory test first and then I had to sing, but I was glad this theory test was in two parts: on paper and ear training. Because I had indicated I wanted to audition for the pre-year, the written test was really easy and I had no mistakes. Then the ear training: I had prepared so much for this test, even more than before! I didn’t want tos crew up again. But I did so well! I tried to keep down the nerves and the examinator told me when we were done he fully agreed on the theoretical field if I got accepted into the pre-year.
Then, after a while it was my turn to sing. They made me sing four songs: one I chose to start with (‘Voi che sapete’ again), two vocalises and one German song. Unfortunately not the song in my own language (which was really interesting to prepare). They thanked me and told me I would hear the result that night. So no party in the train again, but also no crying (haha). We walked around the city for a bit and returned home.

When we got there, my dad opened the door and said: ‘There’s an evelope from Codarts waiting for you on the table.’ Which meant Rotterdam’s decision had finally come! It was a big envelope. I was so afraid to open it! Eventually I managed to rip it open and started to read, when I suddenly saw it: I got accepted into the pre-year! I screamed, but I think my mom screamed even harder! I started to cry so hard, I couldn’t help it and my mom, dad and me hugged each other at the same time. My brother came downstairs because of all the noise we made, so I could hug him too. After I calmed down again, I started to call my family and friends to tell the good news. Of course everyone was really excited, because they knew how hard I had worked for this!
Suddenly, my mom said I had to check my email, because of my audition earlier that day. I opened my inbox and there it was: my email. I opened it, started to read and couldn’t help but scream again: I got accepted into Utrecht too! So again, I called family and friends and finally my singing teacher too, who didn’t know the good news at that moment.
I was so happy!!! Now I had the privilege to choose!

You may think the story has ended now, but it hasn’t. ^^

Even though I had been accepted into two conservatories, I still had my audition in The Hague. I could have canceled it, but since I learned so much from my previous auditions I wanted to do this one too. I never expected them to accept me, so I kept telling myself that so I wouldn’t be disappointed.
On June 5th, I had my fourth and last audition in The Hague. I had a music theory test in the morning, but this one was quite different. I had to do it with two other people: a boy who could sing really high and another girl. The test was really interesting: we had to learn a short melody, sing it in minor, sing it in canon, etc. After that we had a written test, which was quite doable. Then I had to wait for a while before I could sing.
After I had practised with the pianst we went downstairs to the hall where the room was for audition. The room itself was nice and fancy, but the hall was in the basement where all the percussionists were practising. Eventually is was my turn and I told myself: ‘No matter what they say, I got accepted already. I am good enough.’ and I entered.
I sang my songs (‘Voi che sapete’, again XD, and two others) and recited my poem. I also had to sing a prima vista (‘at first sight’, so singing something you have never seen and sung before). I’m not very good at that yet, but I tried my best. There were so many people at this audition! Six or seven I believe.
They went to debate and meanwhile I filled in a form about the school. Then I could come back.
The first thing they said was they didn’t accept me into the school. I expected that and kept on smiling. They gave me some compliments and they thought my poem was fantastic, but my voice seemed too young for someone of 21 years old. There, I realised they said something weird, but I waited for a moment. They also said they thougt 21 was a bit too old for the pre-year, after which I asked: ‘I’m sorry, but… Do you think I am 21?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘I am 19.’ After which they quickly flipped trough their forms and realised they had calculated wrong. Which changed everything! Now they did accept me, if the pre-year had enough finances! I was really speechless, I just… wow! The Hague, the most prestigious and hard-to-get-in conservatory, had accepted me into their school! I walked out of the room and I could barely tell my mom what had happened. I was so happily surprised! Now we finally had our party on the train! Now I had three choices, unbelievable!
Now, I still can’t believe it…

So, this is my story of how I tried to follow my dreams and succeeded, although it actually just started. Music is my biggest passion. My body, my soul, my heart. And now I get the chance to go further. I wonder where this road will take me and I can’t wait to begin walking this new path. It’s scary to leave behind everything I kow and step into a new, musical world where everything will be different. It’s like I’m starting all over again. I’ll continue to live with my parents for a while: the pre-year lessons are only once or twice a week. But it will be strange nonetheless. I am nervous, but excited as well!

Wish me luck!

A Lolita’s First Valentine

For quite some time now I check Loli Valentines every week. It’s really one of my favourite moments of the weekend: I love to see which girls (or guys) received an anonymous valentine from someone that admires them. I like to see what pictures were chosen and the added messages are often so incredibly sweet! I think every Lolita secretly hopes she’ll receive a valentine one day! Me included, of course. ^^ I’ve made several valentines for Lolitas I admire already, but this Saturday I received a valentine myself!

To be honest: I didn’t have such a great morning yesterday and I felt quite sad, until I saw someone had posted a valentine for me! I was so surprised and happy that I started to cry, really! The anonymous poster completely brightened up my day. I really hope the poster reads this, because I want to say: thank you so much! You have no idea how happy you made me! ♥

It's Time For Graduation~!

Taken from Pusheen, the adorable cat!

I did it! Yes, my dear readers, that’s right! I passed my exams and I graduated! I still can’t believe I’m completely done with everything! I wasn’t able to write about it on my blog before, since I had singing performances these past days too. ^^ But here’s the full story!

On June the 16th I woke up calmer than I had expected. I was afraid I would be nervous all day long, but that actually wasn’t the case. I didn’t really do anything special during the day, until the dreaded moment came: 3 pm. If they called you between 3 pm and 4 pm, you failed. After that, you passed but they would still call you. To keep me occupied, my mom and I played a game, which was very fun actually. 3 pm passed, 3.30 pm passed and eventually, 4 pm went by too. Theoretically I passed, but the nerves actually came up then. What if they forgot to call me? It was really nerve-racking, until the phone finally rang. All my teacher had to say was ‘Congratulations!’ and I started to scream and jump in happiness! Oh my God, I passed! I graduated!
When I hung up the phone, I hugged my parents and brother over and over. I even cried, I was so relieved and happy!
Here, it’s a custom to hang out the national flag, with your schoolbag attached to the pole, so I immediately got my bag and my father hung out the flag! I had been looking forward to that moment for so long! Then I texted and called everyone I promised to tell the results.
After that, my father told me to sit down. ‘We wanted to give you a present once you graduated, so here you go!’ He pulled out two neon-green wrapped presents. I had no idea what to expect and I wouldn’t have been able to guess what the presents contained, because when I ripped off the paper, I looked down upon a brand new pink mini laptop, bag and mouse! I never, never expected this and I didn’t know what to say.

That night, I had to pick up my gradelist and decide if I wanted to re-do a test. I was so happy with my grades I decided not to, so I could hand in my books and celebrate the fact that there was no reason for me to return to the schoolbuilding, except for picking up my diploma on June the 30th.

When I came home, there were more surprises! The house was decorated with flags and balloons in all different kinds of colours, saying ‘Graduated!’ My parents also said: ‘Since we don’t really like throwing parties and you don’t like it either, we decided to give you a different way to celebrate it!’ Then they gave me a piece of paper, saying I could take all my friends to my favourite Japanese restaurant! So I’m having a delicious night this Saturday! ^^

I want to congratulate everyone that either graduated or made it to the next year!
Go us~! We did it!

They Say Change Is Good, and I Agree

You will never hear me say that change is bad. I am actually highly persuaded by the fact that change can be really good for you. The only problem is that I myself have trouble with changing, I like things the way they are. Before we moved to the house where I live now, my parents had to convince me that it wasn’t that far away from where we used to live. When I went to Junior High, the surroundings were so incredibly different that I thought I’d never be able to get used to it. Starting a diet was a really big thing for me, I had to change almost everything I was used to. But all these things taught me that change is good for me, because everything always turned out better!

I think I will remember this week forever. In this week, everything in my life will change. This Thursday I’ll hear wether I graduated high school or not. Both will result into new paths I can, have to or will follow.
I read about this tradition in Japan where you cut your hair after something big happened in your life, either positive or negative and I thought that was so beautiful! So I decided to change my haircut drastically. Okay, I'm a bit early, but I just couldn't wait anymore! Up above you see a picture of me before. Don’t be fooled by the wavy style and light colour! I sleep with braids and my haircolour differs in different kinds of light. Anyway, I had wavy sidebangs and long hair reaching my elbows.

Aaaaaaand here is the result after:
A straight fringe, smaller sidebangs and it’s way shorter!
I love it so, so, so much! It’s so different, but I love it! I have to get used to the fact that I feel hair on my forehead and that I see the tips of the fringe when I look forward. It’s also really strange to walk past a mirror: everytime I walk back to see if it’s really me. I look like a totally different person! I feel like a different person too! It’s unbelievable how much can change after changing your look. What’s even more interesting is that, after going to the hairdresser, I went to a clothing store to look around for a bit and walked out with two new jeans and a dress. I hate trying on new jeans, especially when they’re the tighter kind, but I just loved these! I’m proud of myself, to be honest.
I also decided that it's time for me to start wearing make up. I am 18 years old and I've always hated make up, but since I am obliged to wear make up when I'm on stage, I had to. I actually think make up looks way better with this haircut than with my previous one, say it's not bad at all! I do have to practice though. ^^

Well, let’s hope I’ll receive good news this Thursday!

Back From Been Gone

Hello everyone! I’m officially back!
In case you hadn’t noticed: I haven’t written anything in almost exactly one month (tomorrow it’s official, but since I’m writing something today, it won’t be a record after all. Unfortunately. ^^”)

Well anyway, I’ve been away because of studying hard for my final high school exams. Today I had my last ones: geography and English. It’s been two very heavy weeks for me and all the other candidates. Exams that took 2,5 or 3 hours, sitting on crappy chairs, studying when you get home and returning the next day for a new exam… It felt like surviving. I’m literally exhausted right now and my back and shoulders hurt from writing and sitting. If I look back, I’ve been sitting and concentrating for 22,5 hours total!
I really, really hope I did well on all of the tests, but I’m not going to predict anything. I’m a little superstitious, I’d rather not talk about results because I think it will cause something bad. But if I pass, I’ll be done with high school! My God, I can’t tell you how happy I’ll be once I’m gone. I’ve really had enough of it all and I’m ready for something completely new! On the 16th of June I'll hear if I passed or not.

I’ve missed Lolita Wonderland so much this month. Many things happened in the Lolita world and I’m full of new ideas to write about. But because I’m so tired, I’ll save that for later. Just enjoy this picture of a plate with adorable heartshaped macarons until then!

Oh, the title of this entry is based on a saying in my country. I’ve always wanted to say it in English, so here you go! ^^

An Easter Bunny Has Appeared!

I’ll admit it: I haven’t been feeling very well these past weeks and I think it will take a while before I will be fully ‘recovered’. I’ve been feeling very, very insecure lately. My official exams are coming up (16th of May – 27th of May) and I am incredibly nervous. But not only that, I’ve become very insecure about my appearance too. I absolutely hit rock bottom last February, when I, after weeks of crying and avoiding the mirror, fell into what I can best describe as a ‘panick attack’. I really didn’t know what to do and I hated myself so much I felt like the world wouldn’t care about me anymore. Luckily, those feelings are mostly gone, because of the wonderful care of my parents and one of my friends.

Last Monday, after finishing musiclessons, I walked outside of the school building. In front of the building, there was a group of five people chilling and smoking. Three guys, two girls. When I walked by, one of the guys whistled in the ‘fwee-fweet’-way, like when you do when you see a pretty girl. I ignored him, but couldn’t stop overthinking why he did that. Especially when one of the girls said something about ‘ugly’. I couldn’t help but think she was talking about me. I couldn’t imagine for one second that guy actually thought I was pretty…
I felt so awful that I wrote both an email to one of my friends and a message on Tumblr, just to write it off me. I received some wonderfully kind responds that really made me feel better (thank you so much again)! One of them gave an example of herself while wearing Lolita and that I have to feel more confident. She was right of course. ^^ I chose an outstanding fashion. I have to feel confident if I want to wear it and I do want to. So I chose to do something… odd.

Yesterday we had a little Eastercelebration at school. Nothing special, eating and a movie (The Hangover, can you believe it?). I wanted to wear something I felt confident in, so I decided to dress up in an outfit I really liked and combined it with… Easter Bunny ears!

Cherry Berry Bunny approves!

Yes, I’m a silly girl. Why did I do this?
Well, I just needed to feel happy again! And by wearing these outstanding ears I knew I would draw attention. But I totally didn’t care! I liked my outfit, I liked the ears for the occasion… Yes, I got strange looks, but quite some positive reactions as well! After a while, I totally forgot I was wearing them! These ears seriously made my day. And if such a stupid, small thing can make me happy, I know Lolita is definitely worth the trouble!

No Lolita-outfit yet, *sigh*. Unfortunately, the shirt made me look bigger than I am on this picture. XD But I finally noticed that my arms and legs are thinner! It’s finally hitting me..!

Happy Easter everyone!

Wondering In Wonderland

I wonder a lot. I wonder every day and every possible moment. I wonder about the strangest things, but also about normal things. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing, to be honest. Yes, sometimes I’m a bit too much of a dreamer, but I’m still down to earth. I think. I actually believe wondering makes me a better person. I even like the verb ‘to wonder’. In my language, we only ‘ask ourselves’, we don’t ‘wonder’.

Because I wonder so much, I wonder in chains of things. A ‘wonderchain’ could look like this:
I wonder what kind of weather it will be tomorrow -> I wonder what kind of weather it is in Paris -> I wonder what the Parisians are doing now -> I wonder if I’ll go back to Paris anytime soon -> I wonder if I’ll have money then -> I wonder if I’ll buy things at Angelic Pretty -> I wonder if I’ll buy things at Baby, the Stars Shine Bright too -> I wonder what the shopworkers are doing -> I wonder if I’ll ever work in a shop -> I wonder if I’ll ever make a lot of money -> I wonder if I’ll buy Lolita then… And it goes on and on and on.

Sometimes it tires me, especially when I lie in bed and I want to sleep. I have plenty of time to wonder then, since there is nothing else to occupy me. Thoughts race through my head, and I need to tell myself to slow down and try to sleep. The next morning I wake up and everything starts again.

My wonderchains aren’t always positive. They sometimes drag me into a current of negative thoughts, taking me further and further away from happiness. This is usually gone the next morning, since I always live ‘with the moment’.

Does anyone else have wonderchains like me? If you don’t, try it some day! Switch from one thought to the next that has something to do with the previous one. How far can you come? I once got from Picasso to sandals. ^^

The picture is unrelated. I just thought that girl looks so incredibly cute! I wonder who she is? I wonder where she got all those balloons? I wonder who blew the air into them? Who knows...?

Achieving A Goal

I can honestly say that I am very happy today, because I’ve officially lost more than 10 kilos (22 pounds) through dieting.

I will admit it: I started dieting because of Lolita. I was troubled by my weight for quite a while, but Lolita gave me the extra (very hard) push to start working on my appearance. Slowly I lost weight, doing it my -bit strange, but healthy- way (hence the apple on the picture ^^). And today, I finally reached the first number I have been waiting for, yay! If it goes well like this, I might look better in my Starry Night Theatre Jumperskirt on my birthday! I hope it so much (fingers crossed)!

Some Times Tears Can Express Feelings Easier Than Words

There are moments in life I really can’t express myself with words anymore. Only tears can do the job for me then. I had one of those moments this week.

Thursday, when I got home from school, I received very sad news: my grandmother had passed away the night before. The funeral is on Wednesday, and I don’t think I will be posting for a couple of days.

I have not the slightest idea if anyone reads my blog, but I just needed to write this down quickly. I really don’t know how to describe my feelings, so I’ll finish with a quote:

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Taking A Bow For The First Time

Last Saturday was my friend’s 18th birthday and that had to be celebrated with a big party! There was sushi, cocktails, dancing and… a dresscode! Which I fully ignored.

The theme of the party was ‘Purple Sensation’ and we were supposed to come dressed in either white, purple or both. Since I, surprisingly enough, have absolutely no purple in my closet, I decided to wear a white skirt, white shoes and a green shirt (no pictures of my outfit, since it was totally not Lolita-related).
I have been wanting to wear my Baby, the Stars Shine Bright headbow for quite some time. I discovered, by the way, that the name of my bow is ‘Ribbon Roselyne’. How much more coincidence do you need? This bow must have been meant for me! :)
Anyway, I decided that my friend’s party would be the perfect occasion to wear my bow. I fixed my hair, picked out a matching necklace and shoved the headbow over my hair – only to not take it off until much later that evening.

I arrived first, as usual (I guess I am an “on time” person?), so the guests arrived after me. First my friends, who were all surprised by the size of my bow, since I usually wear smaller sized bows. Yet they all said they thought I looked cute, which made me feel more secure.
After that, the other guests arrived. I noticed a few ‘Oh my God, what’s that!?’-looks, but to be honest, I could care less about their opinion! I was afraid I would really feel bad if people looked at me as if I was crazy, but I totally felt the opposite. I love my bow, so go eat sushi or something people! ^^
I have to admit that, after a while, the bow really started to hurt behind my ears. This is actually quite normal, but I didn;t want to take it off. I’m glad I didn’t , ‘cause after a while the pain was completely gone! I just have to get used to it, apparently.

Later on the evening, the birthday girl’s father introduced me to a cousin and he said he really liked my bow! Of course, that made me smile and I thanked him genuinely.

The party was really nice, even though it was mainly dancing. And I don’t dance. I just don’t: I feel awkward while dancing. I much prefer watching other people. I did try sushi for the first time though and it was really delicious!

I apologize for the dark picture, but I made it after I came home, which was about 12:00 pm. I really like it though, I think I look quite ok on it (I’m usually bad at taking good pictures of myself).
I still doubt about how I should wear my bow: like on the picture or flat to my head. I prefer this, because then you can see the actual shape.
Maybe I should buy a headbow that’s on top of my head, instead of on the side.

So what do you think?
Oh, by the way, in a couple of days I'm going to order some stuff, so you can expect a few reviews in a few weeks!
