A little while ago, one of my fellow Dutch Lolitas, Marcella, posted in our community that she’d love to do more (small) photoshoots and asked who was up for joining her! Multiple people responded, but well… for a photoshoot you need a photographer of course! I won’t call myself a professional whatsoever, but I have received numerous comments from fellow Lolitas saying they always like and appreciate my pictures so much, so I decided to give it a go and signed up as noob photographer. Surprisingly, not long after I was approached by Marcella, asking if I wanted to do a shoot with her and our mutual Lolita friend Josine. I was a bit insecure at first, afraid of not being able to deliver, but I decided to give it a go anyway! After some discussing back and forth, Marcella and Josine decided to both wear Gothic Lolita and to shoot in a beautiful garden. I got more and more excited!
So on Friday April 24, we met up and went on our way to the location of our shoot! We had some trouble finding it at first, but once we got there I scouted for some acceptable backgrounds and set up my stuff. The garden was really big and probably had a lot of amazing corners and alleys, but unfortunately we didn’t have that much time, so we stayed close to the entrance.
And then our shoot began! Initially I was really nervous, because I always feel so pushy guiding people into poses. But Marcella and Josine appreciated my instructions and also came up with ideas themselves and I ended up having a great time! The weather was beautiful, the garden great and the models lovely. ^^ Afterwards, we returned to the train station, had some bubble tea and talked for a bit. What a lovely day. ♥
When I started editing my pictures, I was really afraid I would end up with nothing. Taking pictures of people dressed in black combined with sunshine is really hard, especially for someone inexperienced like me. However, I ended up with a lot of pictures I liked (how could I not with models like this? *o*) and I started editing like mad! I decided to give my pictures a bit of a ‘Gothic makeover’ to fit the theme and without further ado, here are some of the pictures I took! I hope you like them. ♥
So what do you think? I really hope you like the pictures! ^^ We had a lot of taking them! I hope I can do a shoot again soon. I have a lot to learn and I am eager to do so~! Thank you for reading. ♥
They're lovely photo's, must have been hard to take pictures in this bright light :O. If it were me, personally, I might have dimmed the lighting a bit, but there's also a chance that that takes away the contrast in (or with) the black fabric, so it might help to, besides editing a whole photo, to edit it on certain places on the photo not overall (don't know if you did that, but hoping you don't mind me giving some tips). Next to that, the poses are really nice, but the perspective and composition is quite centered everywhere, maybe it would be interesting to take things from a different perspective next time to give more accent to certain details or angles :) but next to that, really nice photos Rosalynn, hope you do more photoshoots in the future!
ReplyDeleteI did edit pictures as a whole and also parts of them like you said. The originals of these pictures are very different from these edits I can tell you, haha. :)
DeleteI agree on the centered thing: I am so used to taking outfit pictures where the main focus is bringing out the details of an outfit that I tend to stick to that traditional form. I did go out of my way a bit, but I can definitely try more. ^^
You're definately a great photographer ! All the pictures are so pretty ! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! *o* You are too kind!
DeleteI like the ones with their reflection in the water the most, very nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! <3
DeleteYou took some lovely photos, especially for working in full sun (I despise doing photos in full sun). Your composition is really nice and the subdued edits were a really good choice.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Me too, I try to avoid it whenever I can. x)
DeleteThank you so muuuch! ;_;
I love this shoot, they look so pretty and the location is dreamy! I'd love to have you take my photos (and hopefully teach me how to pose hehe). <3
ReplyDeleteKeep on doing what makes you happy Rosalynn
I am so glad you like it Joana!
DeleteI would be honoured to take pictures with you! *O*
Thank you so much sweetie. ;___;
